The main objective of the study is to analyse the Poland's position towards the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the annexation of Crimea and the regulation of the situation in Donbas. Concerning methodology the systematic method was used for studying of the Polish politicians' perception of the occupation of Donbas and annexation of Crimea and a comparative analysis was used for studying of the positions of European and Polish leaders towards the Poland's hypothetical participation in the Normandy format or other format for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The Poland's official position on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict 2014-2020 has been analysed. It has been proved that for Poland Ukraine is a zone of special interests. Official Warsaw seeks to play a significant role in resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, because the failure of Ukraine will mean for Poland the deterioration of its own security situation. Currently, the Polish border with Ukraine is the EU's and NATO's border, so it would be optimal for Poland to move the borders of these organizations in the future to the East of Ukraine, so Poland strongly defends Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic ambitions. It was concluded that Polish politicians have an understanding that turning the conflict in the Donbas into a frozen one will mean the presence of a permanent explosive situation. It is recommended that the clear signals to the official Warsaw from the official Kyiv about the interest in the practical implementation of the Polish-Ukrainian strategic partnership would be important and farsighted. It is highlighted that the implementation of Polish strategy on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict depends on the strategies of the main players of the European strategic space. The Polish position is perceived as pro-American by French and German authorities, so the official Paris and Bonn avoid involving Poland in the negotiations on the situation in the Donbas. However, Poland alone is not capable of influencing the regulation of the ...
The main objective of the study is to analyze France's position on contemporary French-Ukrainian relations, the status of the Crimea and the reintegration of the Donbas. Concerning methodology the systematic method was used for comprehensive studying of French approaches to problematic issues, such as the reintegration of the Donbas, the annexation of Crimea, and the revitalization of French investment in Ukraine. A comparative analysis of the statements of French MP V. Faure-Muntian and Ukrainian MP O. Voloshyn reveals certain elements of the information war. The official position of France on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict 2014–2020 was analyzed. The hypothetical potential of Ukraine as a market for France and the main obstacle for French investments – corruption – has been clarified. It was proved that despite the fact that Ukraine's relations with France are not strategic, they have entered into a phase of strengthening their importance for Ukraine through the participation of France in the Normandy format, the French position on Russia and sanctions against that state and such events as France's joining to signatories of the Budapest Memorandum and Brexit, through which France becomes the only nuclear country in the EU. The conclusion is drawn about the unpredictability of France's long-term strategy for Ukraine because of its significant dependence on the concept of the French president, who defines foreign and defence policy, and the results of the presidential race are unpredictable enough, as proved by the recent presidential elections in 2017. Recommendations underline the urgency of overcoming corruption; its success will determine French–Ukrainian economic relations. The priority is given to tracking elements of the information war and responding immediately, and if possible preventing it by spreading information more widely about Ukraine in France. It is highlighted the expediency of acquainting the French with the achievements of Ukraine in the field of culture and art that is one of the methods ...
This essay provides the shaping of the leading EU countries' policy towards independent Ukraine. It examines that it was influenced by several factors: including the history of relations between each country with the Russian Empire and the USSR, and the lack of experience in cooperation with Ukraine as an independent state, and geopolitical interests of each state. The German political circles and the media as well as the French ones have been expressed their concern over the possible proliferation of nuclear weapons by Ukraine, which in turn has led to political and economic pressure on Ukraine's stance on its nuclear status. The essay proves that the issue of nuclear technologies was not limited to the discussion of the former existence of a nuclear arsenal in Ukraine. France and Germany take an active part in the activities in the Chernobyl zone. Leading EU countries in the 1990s hoped there will be democratic changes in Russia, transparency and the development of civil society. Ukraine's multi-vector policy was incomprehensible to Western countries, as was the security vacuum felt by Ukraine, which was gradually trapped in the geopolitical grip of two defense blocs: NATO in the West and Collective Security Treaty Organisation (Tashkent Pact) in the East. Since 2014, France and Germany have been mediators in the resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in Donbas in the framework of Normandy format, but so far there is no progress in resolving this low-intensity conflict.
